After a one day hold over the NRCC got underway with their first of only two old bird races that feature in this seasons old bird calendar. As Perth is unavailable for 2020 Arbroath was the chosen substitute and convoyers Darren and Merv got the birds away at 08.00hrs on Sunday 5th July 2020 into a fresh South West wind.
Gusts predicted around 40 mph but some one forgot to tell the birds that the wind was supposed to be an issue as the leading birds romped in at just under 55mph and after 5 hrs and 37 mins on the wing the winning pigeon arrived at the loft of Tom Burkill of Norwich.
Tom flys which just over 305 miles from Arbroath his winning bird was doing 1595 ypm closely followed by fellow Norwich flyer and club mate David Hicks on 1593 ypm.
By late afternoon all sections had birds home and members experienced very good returns, in fact 147 members from 155 members that sent verified birds. A full report in the race will follow
