2024 Day of Champions

Saturday, December the 7th saw the North Road Championship Club’s roll out its red carpet to celebrate the success of the winners of the 2024 race season at the Day of Champions. Warnings of yellow and red weather warnings of strong winds across country did not deter the fanciers and the turnout saw numbers up from 2023. We would like to thank everyone who attended on the day to support the event, it was great to put names to faces and catch up with fanciers in person with those we wouldn’t normally see or, have the chance to chat to.  The annual event held in Spalding’s at the Springfields Conference Centre was a true celebration of the seven-race program that has seen some brilliant results this year from, double Dunbar Young Birds, Old Hen winners Dave and Pat Evans, to the Prestigious Kings Cup winner Ross Lark. A big thank you must go to the winners and section winners who also bought their winning birds with them to be displayed on Champions Row.

We have to also say another big thank you to the NRCC’s race sponsors for Thurso, Paul and Jayne Newbold from PJ Lofts and for Fraserburgh, Arthur Andrews from Bamford’s Top Flight who were both in attendance and who play a pivotal role in supporting the NRCC with their products and prize money. Alongside the sponsors other trade stands that attended and supported the event on the day included  Body and RidewoodPigeon Testing Centre,  Kev Winter – Pigeon Botanicals, Jonathan Swift – RPRA One Loft Race, TMP Breeding Stud, Jayne Mitchell –  Gold Bird Products, J McFayden – Locker and Breckon Soontjens, MAX Nest Felts, D & D Aviaries  Race. If there is anyone who would like to discuss sponsorship or becoming a ‘Strategic Partner’ with the NRCC please do contact us if you are interested, you will be most surprised what we offer.

As well as the trade stands, we were greatly honoured to host the Second Part of the Frank and George Bristow entire clearance sale with auctioneer Stuart Wilcox in attendance to oversee the sale proceedings and who also was our guest of honour to award the trophies to all of our NRCC prize winners. Frank Bristow was one of our ‘Champions of Campions’ a double King George V cup winner and a Midlands National winner who sadly passed away earlier this year and who was a true gentleman that will be sadly missed by many in the sport. Congratulations must go to all the fanciers that sent with the NRCC in 2024 and who got in the results; hopefully long may it continue! Thank you also to everyone who gave their time to be interviewed or sent in details and photos for the articles throughout the last season. It was greatly appreciated and all have been an absolute pleasure to read. Thank you to the committee for your dedication in helping to make it a successful day and with a special thanks to Secretary Ray Knight for organising the event. A reminder to everyone that the 2025 futurity race first sales will begin in mid-February so for further information, rules or ring purchases are all available here

Thanks Christina
