The Lerwick Birds were released at 05:45hrs into a light northerly wind
The Bamfords NRCC King’s Cup Race is ON! The wait is over… At 05:45 hrs this morning, 1,000 pigeons were successfully liberated into very light north east wind reported from Lerwick by Convoyer Tony Meek and Driver Chris Johnson, beginning the 2026 Bamfords North Road Championship Club King’s Cup Race. The convoy cleared the liberation point confidently into a south-west wind, with conditions expected to change to a north-east wind over land as the birds make their long journey home. The race is now in full swing, and members across the country will be eagerly watching the skies as they await the first arrivals.

Competitor Reminder Please remember to verify your first bird within one hour of its arrival to ensure your result is recorded correctly.
